Devlog #8: I'm making this game fun now!

November 7th, 2022

Now that Alpha 2.3 has all the latest changes and (most importantly) patches, I can start implementing the new storm system—at least, that is what I thought. The problem is that (as I said in the last log) you can pause and click 'Go Home' whenever you want, and if I remove the option, you have to walk back home every time. And the problem with that is the lifeless open world, meaning the best strategy is to enter the open world, collect some limbs and items from the first few chunks, quickly walk home, and then keep repeating that process and never run out of limbs or items.

So, I must redo the entire open-world generation system before adding anything else. A significant difference with the new system (besides being incredibly improved upon) will be the one-time seed that will only generate once you first start exploring, so limbs and items will stop spawning whenever you enter explored areas, so you are forced to explore farther out if you want to find more.

And then, of course, I will make the world much more lively with overgrowth and (likely in the full release) animals that would thrive in an environment where most humans have died off, plus much more!

So, when Alpha 3 releases, you will most definitely want to explore the open world!

I know it has been almost a week, but I had a lot of things going on in my life I needed to sort out. I haven't made much progress on Home Grown since the previous date, but I am finally working on it again.

I forgot to post this devlog, so here is one more thing: The tutorial system is no more, and now I will be implementing the Survival Journal! When a new page is unlocked, an exclamation mark will appear in the corner—You unlock these by doing something or entering an area for the first time. Open the journal by opening your inventory and selecting the book icon. There you will be able to read about different tasks, actions, and functions for farming and survival.

But, before making the Survival Journal I must finish redoing the farming and exploration parts of the game.
